Detail: Turkey has a fond and acclaimed history of viniculture, dating back to over 4000 years of cultivating grapes, particularly in central Anatolia, the Marmara and Aegean regions. In the 1970s and 1980s, an increased wine consumption by tourists fuelled a swift expansion in the wine industry, tripling production. Now Turkey ranks fifth in terms of grape production with approximately 53,000 tons of grapes produced annually. This corresponds to a production of approximately 55-60 million litres of wine each year. Its anticipated growth rate of 5% for 2006 makes Turkey the economic powerhouse of the Eurasian economic region. Thanks to its central location and political stability, Turkey is an attractive country for investors boasting a considerable consumer market of more than 71 million people. The wine and spirit market naturally takes its shares from these positive overall developments, which results in a dynamic sectoral growth rate of 9% per annum. http://www.wine-s2007.com |
