| Detail: This project, named 'Develop IT and Telecommunication in Vietnam', is scheduled to begin in early 2006. The Ministry of Post and Telematics, the General Statistics Office, and the People's Committees of Hanoi, Da Nang and HCM City have all committed to participate in the project, with a total investment of US$107.03 mil. This figure includes $93.72 mil from the World Bank, and $13.31 mil of reciprocal capital from the five above-mentioned participants. Total turnover for the city IT market is estimated at around 364 million USD in 2006. In 2005, there were 3.9 million fixed and mobile phones in use in the city, about 46 telephones per 100 people, the goal that had been set for 2010. About 2.8 million were mobile phones, an increase of 25 percent in comparison with 2004, accounting for 23.5 percent of the market share in Viet Nam. Subscribers for broadband Internet, ADSL was over 85,000, 3.75 times the increase for 2004, at 37.5 percent in the country. The city has reached 8.7 subscribers per 100 residents, a target originally to be reached in five years time. The Ministry of Post and Telecommunications (MoPT) have granted licenses to four telecommunications enterprises to test run the fixed wireless interoperability for microwave access (WIMAX) service, these are the Viet Nam Post and Telecommunications Corporation (VNPT), the army telecommunication corporation (Viettel), FPT Telecom and the Viet Nam Television and Technology Investment and Development (VTC).At the present rate of growth, Viet Nam's software industry is likely to meet the US$1.2 billion turnover target by 2010 as per the strategy on information technology development for 2010, experts forecast. According to statistics released by the Ministry of Posts and Telematics, the software sector of the country, classified as one of the 20 most attractive destinations for software processing in the world, had grown by 35-40 per cent annually. The purchasing power of LCD TVs has increased by 250% over the last two months in 2005, imports in 2005 reportedly rose by 35% compared to 2004, and it is estimated that in 2006, 10% of TV sets consumed will be LCD TVs, said Nguyen Minh Thu, Marketing Director of Thien Hoa Trading Centre. There are about 20 brands of electronics products made in Viet Nam, including most of the world's big names.
